It’s been a while since my last update. There are many reasons for that, mostly because I’ve have been rather busy. I was in America for three months, living in the deep woods of Maine, which was AMAZING, as usual. Now I am back home and hitting the producer/songwriter thing pretty hard & making some pretty decent progress too! Will keep pushing hard.
Alas, the purpose of this post is to actually showcase a couple of videos of an experience I had whilst in the good ‘ole USA (yeehaw) this summer. I have been a member of a site known as istandardproducers.com for a while now, having been impressed by some of the content and opportunities they have available on there. For example, they have a ‘Placement Opportunities’ page, where both major and independent artists essentially create ‘adverts’ for the new production they are searching for, to be used on whatever their latest venture might be. It’s a great idea, and a great way for up-and-coming producers to be able to submit directly to the people responsible for the projects.
iStandard also has another big opportunity they offer, which is their Producer Showcase. They travel from city to city all across America and host these producer showcases, where producers will come and play 5 beats to a judges panel and an audience and they receive feedback from the judges on their work. It’s a great idea and a great way for up-and-coming producers to have their music heard and critiqued on the spot by people who genuinely know their craft.
I had been interested for a while in participating in one of these showcases, but due to me spending limited time in the States, the dates never met up when they were in a city I was near. But whilst living in the woods of Maine this year, the Boston showcase happened right whilst I was approximately a 3 hour drive away. I couldn’t pass this one up. So I submitted and thankfully they accepted and invited me to come and play alongside some other great producers. I had an absolute blast and received some amazing feedback from the judges (see Part 2 video!) and actually won the event. Now I plan to fly back to NYC in November to compete in ‘Beast of the Beats V’ which is, essentially, the National finals, where all the 1st and 2nd place producers from the showcases all across America come together to showcase their music. Can’t. freaking. wait.

Since winning the showcase many opportunities have come from it, being put in contact with some very influential and respected people within the music industry, and the opportunity to submit work to some of the biggest names in the entire music industry right now. Hopefully I shall be able to update this little website again with some more concrete information, but for now … just watch this space.
